peripheral edema monitor

The BodiGuide Edema Monitor is a minimal, non-invasive measurement device that provides continuous monitoring of ankle circumference, which is a direct indicator of fluid retention.

Accuracy: +/- 1 mm

Anklet Weight: 11 grams (0.4 oz)

Measurement Range: 180-250 mm (7-10 inches) ankle circumference

Power Source: CR2032

Battery Life: 6 months under normal use

Operating Environment: IPX6 (water and shock resistant)

Electronics Case: 30 x 33 x 10 mm (1.2 x 1.3 x 0.4 inches)

Strap Width: 18 mm (0.7 inches)

Sample Period: 10 minutes

Circumference readings are collected six times per hour to generate a Daily Swelling Profile which reflects the changes in ankle circumference that naturally occur when a person goes from a horizontal position during sleep to a vertical position throughout the day.

Circumference measurements are obtained using a proprietary design able to detect small variations in expansion or contraction of the anklet with an accuracy of +/- 0.5 mm (+/- 0.02 in).

Tension is achieved without compressing the ankle using a constant, low-force spring. The anklet includes an accelerometer for capturing limb orientation and patient activity. The strap material is porous, comfortable, and suitable for long-term use. The strap and spring mechanism are contained within a cassette to make strap exchange uncomplicated.

Power usage is optimized enabling the anklet to operate on a coin cell battery for greater than 6 months.

A normal baseline can be established for the patient during a startup period. The anklet continuously monitors ankle circumference and recognizes patterns that deviate from the patient’s normal baseline due to fluid retention or loss.

The anklet communicates to a medical grade cellular gateway via Bluetooth. The gateway can also collect data from other commercial devices such as a weight scale or blood pressure cuff.

The cellular gateway relays the data to the BodiGuide Cloud for analysis and communication of results to the patient, caregivers, and clinicians.
